One of the truly cool things about blogging is that you can help someone out just by knocking out a quick description of the problem, how you solved it, then blogging it.

Sometimes people you’ve helped don’t take the time to say, “Not only have I read your entry on X, it helped me out. Thanks.”

Ron Miller helped me out with a particularly annoying issue between RoboForm and Firefox 1.06, but he didn’t realize it.

While entirely focused upon utilities, xtort.net is the kind of site I had in mind when I started putting together this site (especially my long-neglected wiki).

xtort.net offers daily updates of hundreds of pages which list thousands of complimentary software programs for Windows.

Weirdness in the UK

“Hoodies,” or hooded sweatshirts, have been effectively banned in the UK.

After reading about it in The Times of India here, I decided to poke fun at our cousins across the pond. Here’s the result:

I posted it upon b3ta’s message board here. Imagine my surprise when Rob Manuel (one of the founders of b3ta) responded that I should sell the design.

After briefly thinking about it, I set up a cafepress.com merchant account at http://cafepress.com/asbo. 50% goes to b3ta.

We’ll see if it gets any hits.

B3ta v. David Sullivan

I’ve been lurking over at b3ta for some time now.

…and, for the last five minutes I’ve been attempting to describe it. Wikipedia, as always, does an excellent job.

Anywho, David Sullivan is a rather unsavory chap (think Larry Flynt without scruples) who reprinted a number of b3tan’s pics without permission or credit. That just pissed me off.

So, in hopefully true b3ta form, I present my crap attempts to show how trully reprehensible Sullivan is.

I’ll be able to post them to b3ta on Tuesday. Woo, yay!

583d Ordnance Company

I’ve been out of the service for nearly 15 years, and I often think back to my time with the 583d Ordnance Company in Handorf, Germany.

There’s a guy who runs a site for the 27th Ordnance Company at http://www.geocities.com/mmitsuda/, and I was thinking of setting up something similar for the folks who served at “Happy Handorf.”

I sent an email to a couple of the guys I served with, and I’m waiting for a response back.

Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor, Part 1

During a search for “keyboard glyphs”, I somehow arrived at this site where historically inaccurate vikings are used to pimp the Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor.

Needless to say, I downloaded it.

My typing speed is one of my vanities, so I wanted to take a look at how fast/slow I really am.

Also, it supports the DVORAK layout, something I’ve been messing about with for a couple of years when I want to really hose up my muscle memory.
